Forget scrolling endlessly through Instagram for fitspiration quotes! Nothing is more motivating than purchasing new gym gear and there is no better time than now because all the sales are on!
Of course JD Sports are the go to store for big brand names like Nike and Adidas, but another store you might not think of looking in for fitness gear is H&M, they actually have a big fitness section with some really bright and funky pieces!
Apparently weight loss is 80% nutrition and 20% exercise, but how do we even start to get our diets back on track, especially after the madness of Christmas?! There are tons of diet and healthy eating books out there but a new one that is flying off the shelves in Eason is Lean in 15 by Joe Wicks, The Body Coach. I’ve been following The Body Coach on Facebook for a while so I was first in the queue when the book came out and I love it because the meals are all really quick to prepare and he’s even included some home exercises, so it’s a recipe book and work out book all in one!
For many people, myself included, a big weakness is the temptation of grabbing something unhealthy when on the go, does anyone else struggle with this? A trick I’ve discovered is that the smoothies in Jump Juice can fool your mind into thinking your having a treat because they taste so good, but they are also really good for you. (Check out the Menu here!) There are so many healthy options like that around, so I really am going to try and not use that as an excuse anymore, starting right after I finish this sausage roll!
Of course you could be REALLY good and make your all own juices and meals at home (check out the Home Department in TK Maxx for cheap kitchen gadgets) but honestly, who has the time to do that for every single meal? The Count On Us meal range in M&S is a life saver, I’ve eaten precisely 5 meals from the range this week, and I know that because I’m using their handy printable weekly meal planner to stay on track!
If you need a bit more guidance, McGorisk’s Pharmacy here in the centre are supporting local people taking part in this year’s Operation Transformation Million Pound Challenge so call in to speak to them if you are interested in getting involved.
It’s not easy making such a big lifestyle change, but even introducing the smallest of changes can make the biggest difference, like simply tracking your steps with a pedometer and increasing your daily activity, little gadgets like that can be a real help.
I also found some great work out equipment in Tiger that are really cheap, simple to use and don’t take up a huge amount of space!
If your home workout equipment inevitably ends up as a clothes horse, maybe joining a gym and working out with other people will be more motivating for you! Our friends over at Athlone Regional Sports Centre have kindly given us a 6 week membership to give away to one of you. The prize includes full access to the gym, pool and fitness classes! Just fill in your details below for your chance to WIN. We’ll be announcing the winner next week!
Best of luck and Happy New Year!
