My Microderm Diary: The Treatment

It’s treatment day! I’m just back from my microdermabrasion treatment in The Laser and Skin Clinic. Keep reading to see how I got on…

Day 2: The Treatment

Hi Guys, Happy Monday! In case you haven’t read my last post, I had my consultation for Microdermabrasion treatment at The Laser and Skin Clinic a few days ago, you can read about that here. Before I forget to mention it, when I told the girls in the clinic about all your lovely feedback from my first post, they said they would love to give me a voucher for a Microdermabrasion treatment to give away!! More on that later, but today was my actual treatment so I just popped down on my lunch break. So here’s what happened;

During the Microderm Treatment

To begin Mairead cleansed my skin again in preparation for my treatment. To prep my skin, she used a salicylic acid cleanser which is really good to remove superficial oils and dead skin sitting on the surface of my skin. She then placed protective covers on my eyes and explained what was about to happen.

Mairead explained that the treatment involves medical grade crystals vacuumed across the outer surface of my skin. The crystals remove the outermost layer by exfoliation, exposing new skin cells that give you that healthy glow…sounds amazing right?! When the treatment began, I could feel the suction and the crystals on my skin. It wasn’t painful or uncomfortable at all, just a little gritty.

After the actual Microdermabrasion part was over Mairead applied a Vitamin C Mask on my cheeks for redness and sun damage and Clay Mask on my T-Zone to improve excess oil and pores. All I had to do was lie back and relax for 10 minutes and enjoy!

40 minute treatment

As we were waiting for my mask to work it’s magic, Mairead was telling me that the Microdermbrasion can be used alone or combined with a mask or Skin Peel depending on your skin concerns. Its also popular with both women and men because of the immediate results and the fact that there is no recovery time.

Once my mask was removed Mairead applied topical comesceutical skincare to protect and prevent my skin from ageing. Once I looked in the mirror I could definitely see a difference straight away, there was an instant glow to my skin and softer look to the lines around my eyes. Mairead had explained that a build-up of dead skin can actually make your wrinkles look deeper and what the microdermabrasion does is exfoliate the upper layers which softens the look of your lines and wrinkles.

After the treatment you can have the option of gloMinerals makeup which Mairead applied as I was heading back to work. It’s so light, it actually feels like I have no make-up on at all right now, but you’ll have to wait until next week to see that in my ‘before & after’ pics, and to find out how you can WIN a Microdermabrasion Treatment for yourself at The Laser and Skin Clinic in Athlone Towncentre.
